Another tradition in São Miguel is to visit the nativity scenes made all over the island. The best known are that of Caldeiras das Furnas, that of Prior Evaristo Gouveia, in the Municipal Museum of Ribeira Grande, that of Madre Margarida do Apocalipse, in Casa do Arcano, in Ribeira Grande, and that of Manaias, in Ponta Delgada.
According to the City Guide, the Furnas Nativity Scene has around 500 figures. It is usually present from the beginning of December until Kings Day.
